Nutty Birthday with Neat & Tangled

Handmade Cards
Nutty Birthday (Neat & Tangled)

These two cards have to be my favourites to date. I probably say this with every new card, but the bar is getting higher as I learn and improve! I love this set and was really happy to use it when Mum asked for a birthday card for my Aunt that featured squirrels. What better way to showcase the set but with watercolours and a little dimension?

Nutty Birthday (Neat & Tangled)

I started out with two pieces of watercolour cardstock and laying down some clean water focussed on the bottom bart of the card. I then used my Kuretakin Gansai Tambi watercolours (three shades of the blue and turquoise) to create a wash on the background. It took a couple of layers to get the intensity I wanted and I added some paint splatters in the same colours before drying.

Nutty Birthday (Neat & Tangled)

I then stamped the various characters and props from both the My Favorite Nut and Into the Woods sets from Neat & Tangled and the banner from the Avery Elle Woodland Fun set in some Versafine Onyx black ink onto some more watercolour cardstock. The Happy Birthday sentiment came from the Neat & Tangled Big Top Birthday set. I coloured them in using my watercolours and left to dry.

Once dry, I cut them with the coordinating dies and mounted the main features and characters with some foam tape. The foliage, acorns and mushrooms I adhered directly on top of the background. I then mounted them onto some white A6 card bases.

For some finishing touches I used a white gel pen to add some highlights to my characters, brightening up some of the places that got a little dark with the watercolours. I thought about adding some sequins but decided to let the watercolour shine as it was. I think I like the card with the two squirells hugging in the nut slightly more!

Happy Easter with Lawn Fawn, Mama Elephant and Avery Elle

Handmade Cards
Happy Easter (Lawn Fawn, Mama Elephant, Avery Elle)

Happy Easter Sunday! I don’t make many Easter cards but I did manage one this year. I hope the recipient as already received this otherwise it will ruin the surprise. Using a combination of products from Lawn Fawn, Mama Elephant and Avery Elle, this bright Easter card will hopefully put a smile on my friend’s face when she opens the envelope.

Happy Easter (Lawn Fawn, Mama Elephant, Avery Elle)

I started with stamping out the background using the Fab Flowers stamp set from Lawn Fawn with some of the new ink cubes from the last release. I used Sunflower, Carrot and Celery Stick with the largest rose layering stamp, filling the background in a random pattern. I made several backgrounds that I will share in future cards in exactly the same way – so easy to mass produce!

I stamped out the bunny from the Mama Elephant Page Huggers set a couple of times (one with glasses and one without) along with a handful of carrots and the banner from the Avery Elle Woodland Wonders set with some MFT Black Hybrid ink. I coloured them in with my Copic markers and cut them out with the coordinating dies. I made up the sentiment from the Plan on It: Holidays stamp set from Lawn Fawn. I popped them up on some foam tape, attached them to the background panel and mounted it on a white A2 card base. I finished with a little Spectrum Noir Sparkle and some Glossy Accents for the glasses.

Fairy Happy Birthday with Avery Elle and Altenew

Handmade Cards
Fairy Birthday (Avery Elle & Altenew) Tallie's Corner

I’ve had both the Pixie Dust Fairy Stamp set from Avery Elle and the Hello Sunshine floral set from Altenew for a while now and not had a chance to use them. When I needed a card for my Aunt’s birthday, this was the perfect chance to combine them both. Coloured using a mixture of Copic markers and Zig Clean Colour Real Brush Markers, this card could be for girls of any age!

Starting with a piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock I stamped a whole bunch of the florals in some MFT Black Hybrid Ink, focusing mainly on the bottom and sides of the card. Using two to three markers for each shade I coloured the leaves and flowers in with my Zig Clean Colour Real Brush Markers. I added in some blues and purples to match the copic markers I had picked out for the fairies. I stamped the sentiment in some Delicata Silver Ink and added some silver dots to the background with a gel pen.

I then stamped two of the fairies, a wand and three of the smaller flowers with some MFT Black Hybrid Ink onto some Neenah Solar White cardstock. I coloured them with Copic markers and die cut them with the coordinating dies. I popped them up with some foam tape and adhered them to the card panel. I adhered the panel to an A2 white cardbase and covered the fairies with some Spectrum Noir sparkle for a little pixie dust.

A fun little birthday card that I’m also entering into the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.

Birthday Hugs with Neat & Tangled

Handmade Cards
Birthday Hugs - Neat & Tangled

This set of Birthday Hugs cards was inspired by a set Tara Sell made (see her blog post and video) and the colouring genious of Laura Bassen (see her blog post and video). I love the Neat & Tangled stamp sets and I had a lot of fund combining the Better Together set with a few Avery Elle products to create this set of three colourful cards. The characters are coloured with Copic markers and the background is a custom water coloured background. I made an extra background in pink but haven’t yet worked out exactly how I’m going to use it, given that pink is not really my colour!
